She Magazine. Can you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your background?

Deepa Nair: My name is Deepa Sujeet Nair, and I’m an accredited mediator and registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner based in Sydney, Australia. With a background in law and a passion for community service, I founded ‘Deeps Mediation’ in 2017 to help people resolve conflicts and improve relationships. Originally from Kerala, India, my journey to Australia was marked by various challenges as an immigrant. Despite facing many barriers and cultural differences, I remained steadfast in my commitment to community service. In addition to practicing law for five years in Kerala, I actively engaged in social initiatives, laying the foundation for my future endeavors in mediation and community leadership. Settling in Sydney with my husband and two beautiful daughters, I immersed myself in several community activities. This included being the General Secretary for the World Malayalee Organisation Sydney Province and Global Women’s Forum Vice President, Far East Asia and Australia Region. Deepa was involved in large-scale events, including celebration of Onam festival, which attracted as many as 1500 attendees.

She Magazine: What inspired you to start [business/organisation/initiative]?

Deepa Nair :The inspiration behind starting Deeps Mediation stemmed from my passion for helping others navigate conflicts and my belief in the transformative power of mediation. Through my experiences as an immigrant and community leader, I witnessed first hand the impact of effective communication and collaboration in bridging cultural divides and fostering unity. Recognising the need for accessible and empathetic mediation services, I embarked on the journey to establish Deeps Mediation, envisioning a platform where individuals could find resolution and reconciliation in a supportive environment.
