Sixteen years ago, I arrived in Australia with a dream—to pursue a career in nursing. Before coming here, I practiced as a doctor in India after completing my Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medical Sciences (BAMS). The transition from being a physician to becoming a registered nurse was not easy, but it was a rewarding and humbling experience.
Today, I specialize as a Paediatric Nurse, and I’ve had the privilege of working in some of the best children’s hospitals in Australia. I truly love my profession; working with children and supporting their families during difficult times is incredibly fulfilling. This work not only brings me joy but also nourishes my soul.
Beyond my career, I have three other passions that bring color to my life: cooking, singing, and table tennis. I played table tennis at the national level in India, and after a long break, I tried to return to the sport. Unfortunately, due to health issues after the pandemic, I couldn’t continue, and I deeply miss playing.
Singing, however, has always been my greatest love. I grew up inspired by the legendary Lata Mangeshkar, and while I never had formal music training, my husband—who is a professional Tabla player—has been instrumental in nurturing my skills. For spiritual growth, I began studying Gurmat Sangeet online with a renowned Ustad Ji from India, which has significantly enhanced my musical abilities. Recently, I had the honor of performing a Lata Ji song at a friend’s gathering, and the warm reception I received was deeply humbling.
Cooking has also become a therapeutic outlet for me, especially in light of my health challenges. I suffer from Anterior Scleritis, a condition affecting my eyes with no known cause. The pain during flare-ups is excruciating, and last year, I lost vision in my left eye. Thankfully, it returned after high doses of steroids, but I remain on various medications, including chemotherapy drugs. This journey has forced me to adjust my nursing work, and as a family, we decided to invest in a food trailer for our catering business, Queen’s Kitchen.

Cooking for others brings me immense joy. Participating in events like Eid and Diwali and receiving positive feedback about our food has been incredibly rewarding. It also helps me focus on something productive and uplifting rather than dwelling on my health.
I believe my story isn’t extraordinary, but it reflects the unique experiences that make us who we are. I strive to cherish each moment as a gift. On good days, I give my all; on tougher days, I accept my limitations and remain hopeful for better times ahead. No matter what, I try to maintain a positive attitude and a smile, aiming to spread happiness and positivity to those around me.
Life may not always be predictable, but I’ve learned to take it one day at a time. My journey has taught me to find beauty in resilience and joy in the present moment.
