Janani Beadle’s story is one of resilience, vision, and a lifelong passion for dance and fitness that has inspired a community and broken down cultural barriers.
From a young age, Janani’s heart was captivated by dance. She began her training in Bharatha Natyam, Jazz, Tap, and Ballet in 1990, developing an expertise that would later define her as a dancer and mentor. Her dream of combining her cultural heritage with dance was powerful, but navigating this path as a young South Asian entrepreneur in Sydney was not easy. Starting a dance and fitness career came with skepticism from her community, who questioned the practicality of her dream. But Janani turned the skepticism into fuel for her ambition. Armed with a Business Accounting background, she founded the Indian Dance School (IDS), a place where she could bring her passion for diverse dance forms to life, and her journey blossomed from there.
As a dance teacher, Janani’s influence was transformative. Her students were not only learning technique but were instilled with confidence and discipline. She became a role model, demonstrating that dedication to one’s passion could lead to a meaningful, successful career. Her expertise led her to become a respected figure in the dance community, judging auditions for events with the United India Association (Sydney) and Dance Eisteddfods across New South Wales. Janani’s choreography brought her to prominent platforms, including the Sydney Opera House’s Bollywood Babies Proms and the Australian film “UNINDIAN.” She shared her artistry with children across Australia through appearances on ABC Kids’ Playschool Window Segment and The Wiggles’ Emma Series.
In 2010, Janani took a bold step by entering the fitness world as a Zumba instructor. With her unique approach, she founded Get Fit Janani (GFJ), a dance-based fitness platform blending Tamil, Hindi, and Hip Hop music into energetic workouts. She wanted fitness to feel joyful and inclusive, creating an inviting space where everyone could embrace fitness through dance. GFJ quickly gained popularity, and Janani’s videos became a global phenomenon, leading her to teach in Chennai, India, and speak at events like Brown Boss Babes IWD and Tamil Women’s Development.
The arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic brought about an unexpected turning point. Lockdowns and restrictions forced IDS to close its doors, shaking her financially and emotionally. Watching her business struggle was heart-wrenching, but Janani’s spirit remained unbroken. When restrictions eased, she made a difficult but decisive choice to sell IDS and focus on rebuilding GFJ from scratch. With determination and creative strategies, Janani not only revived her brand but propelled it to unprecedented success.
Today, Get Fit Janani thrives, serving as a beacon of cultural enrichment, fitness, and empowerment. Janani’s journey from a 20-year-old facing skepticism to a celebrated dance and fitness icon illustrates the power of resilience. Her story shows that with perseverance and passion, early struggles can lay the foundation for an inspiring triumph, transforming obstacles into stepping stones toward a greater vision.
